The Tehachapi Humane Society (”THS”) was started in December, 1993 by Robin Freckmann putting an ad in the Tehachapi News. She asked if others were interested in developing a humane society in Tehachapi. The closest animal shelter is a county run shelter in Mojave, a 20-minute drive from Tehachapi. The Society officially became a non-profit corporation in 1995 and volunteers have been working out of their homes since that time. The Society began renting their first office at 707 Valley Boulevard, Tehachapi in October, 1999.
The Tehachapi Humane Society (”THS”) was formed to:
1. Help provide a low-cost neutering program;
2. Aid and assist our local animal shelters;
3. Provide, publish, and distribute educational materials and information concerning the proper care and humane treatment of animals;
4. Raise funds to finance and carry out the goals and programs;
5. Prevent cruelty to animals.
