SPAY/NEUTER VOUCHER PROGRAM

A voucher application can be obtained by calling us at 823-0699 menu #1.  The voucher is then mailed to the recipient and it can be taken to any veterinarian in Kern County.  Call our office for current voucher amounts.  The owner is responsible for the remaining costs.

NEWSLETTER

The society has a quarterly newsletter. The newsletter tells of past events, upcoming events, pet care advise, volunteer opportunities, etc. Look for our newsletters on our site!!!

HUMANE EDUCATION

Volunteers plan visits to local schools and educate the kids on proper pet care. They show a video and hand out educational flyers, pamphlets, stickers, bookmarks, bumper stickers, coloring books, pet medical record booklets, a dog bite prevention coloring book, etc. Individual classes can participate or an assembly can be planned so 3 or more classes at a time can participate.

SHELTER SUPPORT

The Tehachapi Humane Society donates canned food, collars, towels & rugs, tennis balls & other toys, treats, id tags , voucher applications, shredded paper, educational material, etc. to the Kern County Animal Shelter in Mojave. The Society also makes occasional donations to the county shelter in Bakersfield if there is more than enough for the Mojave shelter.  Help us help them and donate.

HELPING PAW

Donated pet food is available for families who need temporary help with feeding their pets. Pet food is also available to feral cat caretakers as long as a reasonable attempt is made at trapping and altering the cats.

FUND-RAISERS

The Society has had an assortment of fund-raisers, such as: bake sales, rummage sales, raffles, our annual movie fund-raiser, Annual Doggie Fun Day with Walk-a-thon, selling memo magnets, membership drives, reflector ID tags, t-shirts, sweatshirts, stationary, cards, cook books, crafts, candy, calendars, license plate frames and more.

LOST & FOUND

We maintain a Lost & Found hotline which is checked twice daily.  The volunteer also checks with the local newspaper for lost animal listings and checks the bulletin board at Tehachapi Vet Hospital.  A log book is maintained and an attempt to reunite owner and animal is made.

CHRISTMAS BASKET PROGRAM

Every year in early December small gift packages are assembled by volunteers for low income families with pets. The packages consist of a voucher application, an id tag, sample pet foods, treats, vaccine information and a Humane Society pamphlet. Packages are then given to various church and civic groups to distribute with their people baskets.

LOW COST VACCINE CLINICS

Shot Clinic and Additional Licensing Day - Second Saturday of each Month, 10:00 AM to Noon at Tehachapi Humane Society office, 21600 Golden Star, Unit #3. Dog licenses are also available for purchase. Voucher applications are handed out as needed and other information is provided pet owners,

PET PLACEMENT ASSISTANCE

Animals are rescued from the local shelters by volunteers and some are found by humane society volunteers. Animals are kept in foster homes until a suitable home can be found for them. We also try to help place animals that are no longer wanted by their guardians. Homes for those animals are not always available. Some of the animals go to various rescue groups we work with. All animals are spayed or neutered before going to their new home. Our rescue animals that are available for adoption can be viewed online at our THS Adoption Gallery.

HUMANE TRAP LOANS

Humane traps are loaned out to people who want to use them to trap feral cats, get them altered vaccinated and then return the cats to their colony. The traps cannot be used to trap wild animals. There is a $50 deposit which is returned when the trap is returned clean and undamaged. Instructions on how to use the trap will be handed out. Assistance trapping the cats may be available depending on volunteers availability. Contact us for information regarding feral cat altering programs.

DOG LICENSING

Every Monday of each month except for holidays we sell dog licenses at our office from 11 am to 2 pm. This service is provided as a courtesy to local residents and Kern County Animal Control. Office location is 21600 Golden Star, Unit #3 in Tehachapi. You must provide proof of spay or neuter status and your current rabies vaccination certificate.
